Cherokee War of 1776

Historian Walter Bailey of Dublin, Virginia, will present a program on the Cherokee War of 1776 and its impact on Southwest Virginia and Northeast Tennessee. His presentation will explore the Cherokee offensive against frontier settlements, the defense of the Holston and Watauga communities, and the campaigns that followed.

Bailey holds a master’s degree in history from the University of Tennessee and has worked for many years as a professional historian and interpretive specialist. He also serves as registrar for the New River Virginia Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution.

This timely program commemorates the 250th anniversary of a conflict that helped shape the settlement of our region.
