About This Event
The Southwest Virginia Museum Historical State Park will offer A Historic Cemetery Preservation Basics program on Saturday, March 14, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Lee County Historical Society, located at 554 Old Friendship Road (Old friendship Baptist Church), Jonesville, Virginia.
This historic cemetery preservation program will be taught by museum’s historic preservation specialist, Burke Greear. This program will explore topics like what makes a cemetery historic, the different stone types encountered in historic cemeteries and the meanings behind many of the designs and symbols found on historic monuments. In addition, monument documentation methods and a primer on the proper cleaning and care of historic stone types will also be shared.
